So far, language has not been an issue, unless I ask a question that doesn’t get a yes or no answer. In Italy, I asked someone in Italian where I could find the bus to the airport. They gave what seemed like a 5 sentence answer in Italian. When I stared at them with a dumb look on my face, they said in English, ‘over there, to the left’. I’m limited to ordering food and asking for the bill, with ‘please’ and ‘thank you’.
