Skagit Valley Tulip Festival

Every spring in Skagit county, about an hour north of here, there is a tulip festival. It usually begins in April, but the weather around here has been so warm that the tulips are already in full bloom. There are also some daffodils, but the daffodils are spent, those usually go first. The daffodils at our house started blooming at the end of February.

Basically there are farms with acres upon acres of tulips blooming at the same time. It’s quite the event around here. There are traffic jams and you can go sloshing around in the fields for $5. It rained last night, so we just took pictures from the car.

But, flowers are flowers, so we drove a little further to Deception Pass. There is a bridge between Fidalgo Island and Whidbey Island, over Deception Pass. The bridge is about 180 feet above the water. It is a very pretty location; high cliffs, water, and tall trees.

On our way we stopped in La Conner, a small town which appears touristy. Lots of art and antique shops. This is not the Deception Pass bridge, but the Rainbow Bridge over the Swinomish Channel. Acres and acres of tulips. Reds and yellows as far as the eye can see. One last field with some daffodils. Deception Pass
