Fuente de las Ranas

Last evening when we were coming back from the supermarket, we noticed that the Fountain of the Frogs was on. We took the groceries home and waited until it was dark before returning, after the lights took full effect. There was a large gathering of people around the fountain (don’t know why), so we decided to view the fountain from above.

I should explain something about the topography near our apartment. We’re on a hill, which I shouldn’t have to mention because everywhere is on a hill in Guanajuato. Directly out our door is a small park. If we walk to the left then south, we can go down the stairs to the street with the supermarket. If we walk to the right then south, we walk past the old train station to an area/promenade overlooking the fountain. You’ll see from the pictures below that we are quite high. The pictures were taken from the level of our apartment. To the left of the fountain is the supermarket. We can walk there in 3 minutes, but it takes 10 minutes to climb the steep stairs back home. ?

There must have been a special event because not only was the fountain displaying colorful water spouts, there were two guys twirling fire sticks, like at a luau. Music was also playing (Mexican not Hawaiian). When the music stopped, there were fireworks.  It was very nice.
