Planes, Trains and Automobiles

Instead of Planes, Trains and Automobiles, the order of how we got here is automobile, bus, train, train, plane, plane, and another automobile.

When we decided to spend two months in Guanajuato, we were still living in the Seattle area. At some point after buying the plane tickets, we decided to sell our house and move to Oregon. It was ridiculously expensive to rebook the plane tickets, so instead we took Amtrak to Seattle and stayed overnight in a hotel before our flight, which was way cheaper. One long travel day turned into two long travel days. Not complaining, it was a self inflicted problem, and we are retired and have nothing but time.

We left home on Friday, took an Uber to the train station, Amtrak put us on a shuttle bus to Portland, from there we caught the train to Seattle, then we took the light rail from downtown Seattle to the airport. That took about 7 or 8 hours.

On Saturday, we flew from Seattle to León with a four hour layover in Los Angeles (length of layover was not our idea, Delta can change their flight time for free). The layover ended up being 5 hours due to a late arriving flight attendant. From León we took a taxi to Guanajuato, about 30 minutes away. The plane left Seattle at 6 am (pst) and we arrived in León around 7:30 pm (cst).

We’ll have to reverse this process to get home, but we don’t have to think about it until the end of March.

Picture captions

I guess I forgot to caption the two pictures. The first is from central Guanajuato, with the colorful houses climbing the hills. The second is from the Fuente de Las Ranas, Fountain of the frogs. The plaza around the fountain has a bunch of frog sculptures. The fountain wasn’t running yesterday, it was a little windy. Not sure of the significance of the frogs.

Website change

I have updated the website to use WordPress. Previously I hand coded the HTML, but now I’ve finally given in to using technology to make life easier. This should make the website easier to maintain and also allow for easier posting when on the road. If you used the old RSS feed you will need to update your feed reader to use the new link.
