Oh My Gelati!

For years on our trips, we would always get frozen treats after a hard day of site seeing. We’d try to get Gelato in Europe and frozen custard in the US.  At home, however, there were no frozen custard places in the Pacific Northwest; Washington or Oregon.  Sure, there are soft serve and other ice cream places (Dairy Queen, Sonic, Cold Stone), but no frozen custard (Freddy’s, Rita’s, Culver’s, Andy’s).

Until now.

A new place opened recently in the suburbs of Portland called Oh My Gelati.  This place is similar to Rita’s, where you can get what they call a ‘Gelati’, which is a layering of frozen custard with Italian ice.  Denise got vanilla custard and apple ice, with a drizzle of caramel.  I mean, this is a thing of beauty, and tasted great too.

I had chocolate, of course.

Willamette Falls

On our way, we stopped at the Willamette Falls.  The website claims that this is the largest waterfall by volume in the Northwest.  It is on the Willamette River, 26 miles from the Columbia.  Each time we drove on I-205, we saw a “View Overlook” pullout sign, but we never stopped because we didn’t think anything was there.  Turns out, there is an unimpressive waterfall.  (Mt. Hood is slightly visible in the distance)

Here’s the view from the other side of the river
