Frequently, we never stay in the same hotel more than 2 nights. This time we were in the same place for almost 2 weeks. This trip was a family vacation (Denise&#8217;s family). We were only on the island of Oahu.<\/p>\n<p>We saw a couple of museums, Pearl Harbor, the North Shore, watched (on TV) the Blackhawks fight for the third Stanley Cup in 6 seasons, visited with Denise&#8217;s relatives (a bunch live there), went to a luau, and went on a couple of hikes (one to the top of Diamond Head).<\/p>\n<p>This is the view from our room on the 18th floor.<\/p>\n<div id='gallery-1' class='gallery galleryid-2520 gallery-columns-1 gallery-size-full'><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/hovorka.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/hotelview.jpg'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/hovorka.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/hotelview.jpg\" class=\"attachment-full size-full\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p>On the North Shore we had lunch at a food truck called Mackey&#8217;s Sweet Shrimp Truck. It was very warm in Honolulu during the day, mid to upper 80&#8217;s, and the overnight lows were only in the low to mid 70s. So we wanted to get an early start. The volcanic tuff cone (yeah, it&#8217;s a volcano, dormant for 150,000 years) is open for hiking beginning at 6am. We took the bus to get there, and arrived shortly before 6:00. The movie you see before embarking on the ferry trip to the USS Arizona Memorial shows actual footage of the day.
