Made a short weekend trip to Whistler, BC, a world class ski resort and host to many of the 2010 Winter Olympic events. We’d never been to Whistler before, so we thought we’d go before the snow hit. There are many things to do in the summer, like riding your bike down the mountains, white water rafting, zip-lining or just hiking. We did some light hiking and zip-lining.<\/p>\n
It was very hot, in the upper 80’s. The village has a lot of restaurants and a lot of shops. It was a very crowded weekend, as Canada celebrates Labour Day on the same day as the US.<\/p>\n
On the drive up we stopped at Brandywine Falls. It’s a short hike from the road to a pretty impressive waterfall. \"\"<\/a>We also stopped at the ‘Train Wreck’. In the 1950’s, a train derailed and rather than right the damaged rail cars, they were pushed into the forest. This was a longer hike than at Brandywine Falls, and it was really getting hot. \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a>Sunday morning we took the village gondola up to the top of Whistler (about 7100 ft. elevation). \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a>We rode the ‘Peak 2 Peak’ gondola between Whistler and Blackcomb mountains – which boasts the longest unsupported lift span in the world (3.024 kilometres or 1.88 miles). It is also the highest lift of its kind with an elevation of 436 metres (1,427 ft). \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a>Sunday evening we rode zip lines with Ziptrek<\/a>. There were 5 lines, 2 which were pretty long, a little bit of hiking in the woods between platforms, and some suspension bridges between trees. It was great. \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Whistler, British Columbia \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a>On the drive home we stopped at Shannon Falls. It’s not very impressive in September, but probably is in June. \"\"<\/a>Notable meals were at Peaked Pies and Royal Taste of India. And a Blizzard from Dairy Queen really hit the spot after a hot day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
