NH to RI

Started day at the Strawberry Banke museum in Portsmouth, NH (basically a whole neighborhood of old homes preserved). Drove through Hampton Beach, NH, didn’t stay long, most things closed for the season. Stopped in Salem and went to the history museum, not any of the witch museums. Finished day in Newport, RI and the mansions along the water (summer homes of rich people from the Gilded Age). Didn’t go in any, walked a bit along the ‘cliff walk’.

Portland and Portsmouth

Left Ellsworth, ME and stopped in Portland for lunch. Walked a little around the eastern promenade and drove a little around downtown. Drove on to Portsmouth, NH. Visited the ‘John Paul Jones’ house. I needed to do a little more advanced research on that one. John Paul Jones only stayed here twice, it wasn’t his house. That said, it was a very informative history museum, so the name should be overlooked.

Downtown Portland, ME

Downeast Maine

Drove to the lighthouse that is at the eastern most point in the US (Quoddy Head). Drove along the coast to Acadia national park. Schoodic Point was nicer than Mt. Desert Island. I guess I’m spoiled by my commute to work, where my train rides alongside Puget Sound, where I see water and snow covered mountains most  spring/summer/fall days on my way to/from work.
