As the site was excavated, hollow spaces were found that were left behind by the suffocated people. These spaces were filled with plaster to create these casts of people in their final moments.

They put large stones in the middle of the streets. These were the right size so carts could pass over them, and allow people to cross the street. Water was run down the streets to keep the clean.

On Friday the 11th, we went to Pompeii. Mount Vesuvious blew up in 79 AD, burying the city of 20,000 under 30 feet of ash. The city was rediscovered in the 1600s and excavation began in the mid 1700s. (two pictures)
