On Friday the 11th, we went to Pompeii. Mount Vesuvious blew up in 79 AD, burying the city of 20,000 under 30 feet of ash. The city was rediscovered in the 1600s and excavation began in the mid 1700s. (two pictures)

I’m running out of disk space on my free hosting account, so I’m about to cough up some dough and upgrade to a paid account. That means the pictures won’t be affected by a daily download limit. But I don’t know how seamless the upgrade will be, so if everything disappears, I might not be able to fix it easily from here. There may be a week of silence.
Been in Italy for 3 days, had pizza 3 times. Fresh mozzerella cheese tastes really good on a pizza.
I’ll catch up on pictures tomorrow. We are taking a day off after two weeks on the go.
The trip consisted of a 10 minute shuttle bus from the hotel to the local train station. A 30-40 min train ride to Pompeii. A 1 mile (20 min) walk across Pompeii to a different train station. A 60-75 minute train ride to Paestum. A 10 minute walk to the site. It was also very hot, it was 29 (84) yesterday and felt hotter today. And the trains in Italy are not air conditioned. And look like they haven’t been cleaned in 50 years. I could not see out of the windows. I think they leave the windows dirty to help block the sun.
