We went to Mt. Rushmore in the morning. We walked the trail that gets you closer to the monument.
The model
After that we drove to the Crazy Horse Monument. This is not a national park, but a private site. There was some kind of walkathon happening when we were there. We were not allowed to get closer to the monument, and we didn’t want to wait around until 4:30 until the event was over.
We spent the rest of the afternoon on scenic drives. We drove the Needles Highway and the Iron Mountain Road.
There were a couple of tunnels carved into the hills. Some framed the Mt. Rushmore monument so that you see it perfectly as you drive through the tunnel. The picture did not come out due to bad lighting, but you get the idea.
