Phoenix 2011

We went to two baseball games, Cubs vs. Mariners and Cubs vs. Reds. The Cubs lost both games, not that it matters.

We sat in the third row in Peoria, the home of the Mariners. I hadn’t realized what a bad idea the third row might be when I bought the tickets. There is very little shade in these spring training ballparks. We were in the sun and it was in the upper 80’s. I swear, even with my back to the sun and wearing a wide brim hat, I still got a sunburn on my face. Occasionally there was a slight breeze, so the temperature wasn’t bad.

In Mesa, where the Cubs play, we got tickets by the press box, so we were in the shade during the whole game.

I found out that you can watch the Cubs warm up at their home park on days they play away games. Arrive around 9:30am and you can get in (for free) and sit in the front row, watching the Cubs warm up and hopefully getting an autograph. Around 11:00 they got on the bus to go their game. This was probably more fun than the actual games.
