Day acht, Rust, Germany.

Today we traveled to Rust, Germany, home of Europa Park. We took four trains and one bus as Europa Park is not on a train line. In hindsight, it was not worth the effort to get here. We left Bacharach about 9:30am, changed trains in Mainz, changed again in Mannheim, changed trains one more time in Offenburg, got off in Herbolzheim and took a bus to Rust. I think we got to the hotel around 4:30pm.

Had one of our more filling dinners at Gasthaus zum Ochsen in Rust. Denise had Hausgemachte Käsespätzle, homemade noodles fried with cheese, bacon and onions. In addition to what Denise couldn’t finish, I had Delikater Bauernschmaus, potato wedges fried with bacon, salami, sausage, green onions, egg, and cheese. It was very good. Large portions too, maybe because we were Americans. When the owner seated us, he started whistling the US national anthem. His daughter was sent to our table to take our order because she just spent a year in the US. In fact, she was in Olympia, Washington. We told her we had just arrived from Bacharach. It was funny that she knew where Olympia, Washington was, but not Bacharach, Germany. Very nice people.

Updating the blog in our hotel room at the Casa Rustica.
