Southwest 2016

Day 3 - Sep 5, 2016
Last updated: 9/13/16 4:00pm PT

Today we visited Meteor Crater and the Petrified Forest/Painted Desert National Park. It was extremely windy at the Petrified Forest.

Dinner was at Salsa Brava. We had a stuffed sopapilla and a Navajo taco, both served on fry bread. This fry bread lacked flavor. We will have much better fry bread in a few days.

Here is a piece of meteorite, believed to have been part of the meteor that crashed here about 50,000 years ago.

The crater.

In the Painted Desert you can see the many layers of rock that show the history of this land.

Petroglyphs at ‘Newspaper Rock’.

In the Petrified Forest you can see recognizable trees that have been petrified into stone.
