Day 14 - Oct 31, 2017 Last updated: 11/26/17 4:00pm PT
Today we flew to Lisbon, Portugal. I was unable to check-in for the flight online, kept getting an error message, so I called the airline (TAP Air Portugal) to make sure everything was ok. They said everything was ok, but I’d have to check-in at the airport. So we left early to give ourselves extra time if there were problems at the airport. There were problems. Not sure what happened, but it took the person behind the counter quite a while and also a long phone call to get us our boarding passes. I’m sure the people in line behind us were very upset at how long it took. In the end, everything worked out. This was the first time I was on a propeller plane.
We stayed at the My Story Ouro Hotel in Lisbon. The room was very nice, small but renovated. Walked around Lisbon in the afternoon. We asked the front desk where a grocery store was, and the directions they gave said walk two blocks that way, go in the building and take the elevator up, then walk a couple more blocks. That sounded a bit confusing, but off we went. In some nondescript building there is a public elevator, no sign out front, or at least none that I saw. It looks just like any other building on the street. Yet, there was an elevator to take you up 3 floors where you exited out the opposite side of the elevator on to the next street. Yes, the hills are that steep.
For dinner we had burgers at B Temple. It was a pile of food. The burger was in there somewhere. The burger sits on a plate of fries, with onions, mushrooms, pickles, sausage, cheese, bacon, and a fried egg on top. Some kind of sauce is poured over the top. You are definitely eating that with a knife and fork.
Lisbon is known for the tile on the front of buildings, in fact they have a tile museum which we will go to on another day.
Lisbon has some big hills. You can see in the first picture the elevation change down then back up, in a four block span.

The 25 de Abril Bridge and the Rio Tejo.

The time change was messing us up. We were in Central European Summer Time (daylight savings time) which ended on Oct 29th, then we flew west into an earlier timezone. What was 11pm two days ago is now 9pm.
