New England 2014

Day 9 - Sep 7, 2014
Last updated: 9/20/14 5:00pm PT

Today was a long driving day (478 miles), from Quebec City to Campobello Island in New Brunswick. We drove ‘around’ Maine. We only drove on a small portion of Maine soil today. There is only one bridge to Campobello Island, so unless you take a ferry, you have to drive through Maine.

We stopped in Rivière-du-Loup, Quebec on the St. Lawrence River. Whales are supposed to come in this far, but there wasn’t a good place to stop for a view. Not that we would have been able to see anything anyway. The river is quite wide here.

We stopped for lunch in Grand Falls, NB. The ‘falls’ were a mere trickle at this time of year.

Things we did not stop to see while driving through New Brunswick: We did not stop in Florenceville-Bristol (French fry capital of the world) to visit the potato museum. We also did not stop in Nackawic to see the world’s largest axe. We did, last week, stumble past the world’s tallest ladder back chair while in Bennington, VT, but I assure you it was by accident.
