Ocmulgee Mounds are in Macon, GA. There is evidence of human habitation going back 17,000 years. The mounds are more recent, being only about 1000 years old. The one below is an earth lodge. The others you can’t go inside.
We stopped for lunch at Krystal, the South’s answer to White Castle (White Castle came first). These are exactly like the sliders you know and love up north, but they put mustard on them.
Atlanta, GA
On our way into Atlanta, we stopped at Stone Mountain, a Mt. Rushmore of the Confederacy. Carved on the mountain are giant images of Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee, and Jefferson Davis. It’s larger than it appears. According to the Stone Mountain website, workers could stand in the horses mouth to escape the rain.
