The public transit system was having a one day strike today. We knew about this in advance because theses strikes are publicized ahead of time. We took a private boat (not the expensive taxi, just a shuttle bus) to the airport.
We flew back to London from Venice. The Italian airport security people were very surly to all passengers (not just Americans). They would be smiling and laughing amongst themselves, then turn on a passenger and yell at them. The conveyor belt into the bag x-ray machine kept jamming. The security agents would yell at everyone for putting their bags on the belt, like we were supposed to know that the belt would need to be run in reverse to unjam things. I did not notice any bags that were too large for the machine, so I’m not sure why it kept jamming.
